Heading Home

Heading Home by crandallc

One of the hardest things is the time to say goodbye to all our new friends and head home. This trip will always be one of amazing sites, cool adventures, and new friendships. On the other hand, heading home means returning to our families and friends who worked so hard to help us with this opportunity. Thank you all!

Howling with the Wolves

Learned all about wolf preservation and their role in the environmental chain. Watch the video for an exciting moment when we howled to the wolves and they answered back.

Rocky Mountain High

Made it through the Rocky Mountains today. The drive was long but we stopped quite a bit to see magnificent lakes, waterfalls and the natural bridge. After lunch at the wolf sanctuary, we continued south through Glacier National Park , across the Continental Divide to Kelowna. Now we are making arrowheads with an archelogist. Check back for more pictures from today and a really neat video of the kids howling with the wolves.
Tomorrow we are heading for Victoria after lunch at Bridal Falls.

This was so much fun for everyone! Richard, our field instructor, has been amazing with the kids. (He's the tall blonde running into the water with the kids.) Enjoy this video from today. Watch Trey take the first dive ahead of the count. He couldn't wait!!! :)

When shopping in Canada, you should always save money to buy yourself an animal hat to take home!

Calgary Olympic Village

We had a fantastic first day! We spent the morning at the 1988 Olympic village and saw all the winter event tracks. Did you know that Calgary is where the Jamacian bobsled team first competed? We even walked up to the turn where that famous bobsled crash happened. For lunch we ate at a Calgary tradition called Pete's Diner where we all had burgers and milkshakes. The afternoon took us out to a Hetturite community where we talked with Lydia and learned about their way of life.
Tomorrow we are leaving Calgary and heading to the dinosaur museum and the coal mining fields. We will be staying in the original coal miner's shacks overnight. On Monday we will head to our Tipi Camp for two days. There will not be an Internet connection until we get to Banff, so our next post will be Wednesday.
The weather is getting nice here; rain yesterday but sunny and 73 today. Let's hope that the weather holds out in the Rocky Mountains!

Keep your eye on our blog for updates and photos of our travels as we go. I will only be able to update our blog where there is WiFi, but I will update our page as often as I can. Getting ready to travel at our last meeting, we got our polo shirts, went over last minute travel details, had suitcase races and posed for our first delegation picture. We can't wait until we meet our fellow delegates in Minneapolis and Calgary.

Welcome to our travel blog!

In 4 short weeks, we will head to Calgary to begin our 10 day journey through Canada heading west to Vancouver and ending at Victoria. This blog is for our families to follow our travels and adventures as we experience them. Although, cell phone service will be sporadic, I will try to keep updated as often as possible. I hope that you enjoy our trip as much as we all will.
